GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One individual is dead after being struck by a car on the Fourth of July.
Lance Corporal Judd Jones, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, tells WMBF News that a pedestrian walking on Powell Road in Georgetown County around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday was struck by a 2001 Ford SUV, driven by a 51-year-old man from Georgetown.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said.
Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson has identified the victim as 16-year-old Victoria Knowlin of New York. According to Johnson, Knowlin was in town visiting family.
The driver of the SUV was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the collision.
Pending an investigation by MAIT, no charges have been filed.
