There’s no such thing as free parking

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Police are looking for a man who they say tried to burglarize a parking meter early Wednesday morning near a hotel parking lot.

The incident report from Myrtle Beach Police says the alleged suspect tried to rob a parking meter near the Sea Dunes Motel located at 605 South Ocean Boulevard at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The front desk clerk told police the suspect came in and asked about renting a room. According to the report, the suspect then handed the clerk four credit cards and asked her to run them to see if they worked.

After the clerk attempted to run all four cards, she told the suspect they declined but she didn't ask for the suspect's ID, said the report. Afterwards, the suspect left the motel and went to an ATM outside of the lobby and tried the cards again.

Other witnesses told police while they were standing outside of their room, they saw the suspect pull up to the parking meter and watched him drill into the parking meter, according to the report.

After the suspect realized he was being watched, he threw his drill into the car and drove off, witnesses reported.

According to police, the suspect was driving a dark green or blue Honda with NC license plate AMK3595 and is described as possibly Hispanic, standing approximately 5'10, 170 lbs with short dark hair.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
