West Florence FD extinguishes suspicious apartment blaze

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The flames have been extinguished after reports of a structure fire outside of a Pee Dee apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

Captain Anthony Fox, spokesman for the West Florence Fire Department, says their crews responded to the Oakdale Apartments on Oakdale Terrace Boulevard around 4:10 p.m. to find a fire on the exterior of the apartment building extending up the vinyl siding to the second floor.

The fire was placed under control in approximately 10 minutes, Fox said, but three engine companies and 12 personnel remained on the scene to ensure the flames did not extend into the building, also damaging the inside and the attic of the apartments.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but Fox adds that the sheriff's office has been asked to investigate the suspicious circumstances.
