SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The suspect Horry County Police arrested and charged in connection to an arson in the Deerfield area has been released from police custody.

Sgt. Robert Kegler confirms to WMBF News that 21-year-old Travis Andrew Degruccio of Surfside Beach was taken into custody Tuesday morning.

The incident report says the initial call into authorities Monday night concerned a suspicious vehicle fire. The owner of that vehicle says the suspect, Degruccio, knocked on his door and told him the truck was ablaze before he fled on foot down Gibson Avenue.

Once on Gibson Avenue, Degruccio is then believed to have started a fire in a boat attached to a pickup truck, also trying to set fire to that truck by stuffing a rag in the gas tank. A fire then sparked in the back living room of Degruccio's parent's house, Kegler said.

Detectives with the Horry County Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit and CID responded to investigate the incident, and Kegler says during the investigation Degruccio admitting to starting the fires.

Degruccio was being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center until he was released Thursday evening around 8 p.m. on $30,000 bail. According to booking records, Degruccio has been charged with four counts of arson and attempts to burn, willful and malicious.
