MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Independence Day is coming up, a day to celebrate and remember our nation's humble beginnings.
But before you rush out the door and try to run some errands on your day off, remember that some businesses and offices may be closed in observance of the holiday.
All Horry County offices, other than public safety operations, will be closed Wednesday for Independence Day.
Myrtle Beach city offices and all recreation centers will be closed Wednesday. However, solid waste and recycling will be collected on their regular Monday through Thursday collection schedule.
City of North Myrtle Beach offices, the Aquatic and Fitness Center and the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center will be closed Wednesday. Sanitation service will adhere to the regular schedule.
With all the parades, picnics and bar-be-ques, it is important to remember firework safety as we celebrate with friends and family this holiday.
Statistics show that an estimated 1,200 injuries occurred on Independence Day last year, and those were associated with sparklers. Nearly 400 were caused by bottle rockets.
Fire Marshal Kenneth Carr, spokesman for Florence Fire Department, encourages you to attend firework displays, instead of setting off fireworks at home.
