MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Nearly a month after one man reportedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend with an axe, the assault suspect has been arrested and charged with the crime.
Reports from Myrtle Beach Police filed on May 30 when police responded to the 200 block of South Myrtle Street say the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Antonio Goncalves of Wilmington, had reportedly been involved in altercations with his ex's current boyfriend several times in the past, using a knife and threatening to kill him.
According to the report, Goncalves arrived at the home and struck the victim when he opened the door, at least once in the head.
A second male victim observed the attack on the current boyfriend and was struck in the chest with an axe when he tried to help, according to the report. That victim was bleeding from his chest when police arrived on the scene.
Both victims were transported to the hospital for treatment.
On Friday, Goncalves was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted murder. Officials with the Myrtle Beach Jail say Goncalves will have a bond hearing at 3 p.m. Friday.
