MBPD searches for Mr. Joe White Ave. purse snatcher

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Three females say they were walking on Mr. Joe White Wednesday night when a man came up behind them and jerked a purse away from one of the women, but he did not get away without a fight.

According to a Myrtle Beach Police Report obtained by WMBF News, officers responded to the corner of Mr. Joe White Ave. and North Oak Street around 11:15 p.m. in reference to a strong armed robbery that took place at the corner of Lumber Street and Mr. Joe White Ave.

The two 20-year-old females, and one 19-year-old told police as they were walking east bound on Mr. Joe White Ave at Lumber Street, a black male suspect, snatched the handbag of one of the women and attempted to run off with the purse.

The victims began screaming and hitting the suspect as they attempted to pull the purse away from the man, according to the report. The suspect then began hitting the victims, striking them with an open hand, trying to get them to let go of the purse.

The suspect eventually overpowered the victims and ran off with the handbag. He was last seen running through Futrell Park.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'6" to 6', bald headed, wearing a white t-shirt and black pants at the time of the crime. The stolen purse contained the victim's passport, other identification, $50 in cash, and a debit card.
