Man arrested for assaulting wife with statue

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Police have arrested a man who assaulted his wife with a statue at their home Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened on 1300 block of Pridgen Road at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday. According to the Myrtle Beach police report, the victim told police she and the suspect, Percy Lee Deshield, 54, of Myrtle Beach have been married for 21 years.

The victim told police Deshield was out drinking with his friends during the day and when he returned home, he asked her to give his friends a ride to the store, the report stated. She told him no because she was busy cleaning the house. Deshield insisted that she go and grabbed her by her neck.

According to the report, he then grabbed a statue and lifted it towards her to hit her. The victim then ran out the door and called police.

Deshield told police he didn't touch the victim or harm her in any way. He then told officials, he and the victim got into an argument because the victim didn't want the offenders friends in the house because they were homeless.

When police examined the victim, she appeared to have a scratch on her right side of her neck. The victim told police she was in fear the offender was going to beat her with the statue.

Officials arrested and charged Deshield with criminal domestic violence and his bond has not yet been set.
