FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The American Red Cross is assisting a Florence family after their home was heavily damaged by smoke and flames in an early morning blaze.
Fire Marshal Kenneth Carr, spokesman for the Florence Fire Department, tells WMBF News that three engine companies, one ladder company and two command staff vehicles responded to a reported structure fire on the 300 block of Warley Street around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Upon their arrival, there were smoke and flames showing from the home, prompting one firefighter to force entry through the front door in a search for residents. Another crew member followed advancing a hose line to begin dousing the flames, Carr says.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes, and contained to one room but the heat and smoke caused significant damage to the home.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation. It appears the fire was unintentional.
Carr adds that no civilians or firefighters were injured. The family is being assisted by the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
