FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Sundae House has been around a long time in Florence, and thankfully, it looks like it's going to be there a lot longer. Despite some new paint, new food and a new owner, it's still The Sundae House and all that goes with it.
Drive up or walk up, no matter how you get it, it's going to be good.
Customer Richard Barfield agrees, "…and the steak sandwich…aww…it's awesome! Last Friday I ate one Friday night and came back for lunch on Saturday and had another one for lunch. It's just that good."
That's right, steak at The Sundae House. But in true Sundae House fashion, you can still get that ice cream that you always leave a little room for.
"Great ice cream, great ice cream," approves Barfield.
A year ago Dino Cholkas and Misty Ryals decided to put their twist on a Florence tradition that's been around a long time.
"All of our customers say that they met here or got engaged here. I've had 60 and 70 year olds tell me they worked here 50 years ago. So, it's pretty interesting," explains co-owner Misty Ryals.
"We have the same customers weekly, which is a good sign. A good foundation," she adds.
If you've seen the new menu, you know why customers return.
The Greek grilled chicken, the ribeye steak sandwich, hamburger steak, fresh cut zucchini and obviously, the ice cream will all leaving you wanting seconds.
A fresh new start for The Sundae House, with some Sundae House staples, seems to keep this corner store hopping at all hours of the day, and hopefully for another 64 years.
