FLORENCE
COUNTY, SC (WMBF) One Florence man is facing arson charges after police say he
set fire to a business he had stolen from in an attempt to cover his tracks.
Captain
Michael Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, says
35-year-old Kevin Spry was arrested on Monday and charged with petit larceny,
malicious injury to personal property and arson.
Investigators
allege that Spry and two others cut through a fence in order to steal golf cart
batteries from a business on South Irby Street. Spry and his partners in crime
then are believed to have torched the business using an accelerant to spark the
blaze.
The fire was
put out, but several thousand dollars worth of damage were reported.
Spry is
being held at the Florence County Detention Center on a $50,000 surety bond.
The
investigation into this incident is ongoing and additional charges are
likely. Investigators ask that anyone
with information regarding this incident to contact the sheriff's office at 843-665-2121, ext.
438 or Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee at 1-866-CRIME-SC.
