MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Finally it appears we are very close to seeing a college football playoff that will crown the national champion beginning in 2014 It isn't perfect, including only four teams, but it isn't perfect, including only four teams.
Consider This:The commissioners from the athletic conferences agreed to a playoff system and the conference presidents will now vote on the plan. If they approve it the current Bowl Championship Series will go away.
It's a step in the right direction, but fans will continue to complain until there is playoff system that includes more teams. However, what might work in baseball or basketball is much more difficult to pull off in college football. A playoff system can't devalue the regular season, teams can't play another football game after one day of rest and the season can't stretch into February like the NFL; remember these kids are in school and have to attend class as well.
Perhaps it will evolve to include six, eight or more teams in the future, but a playoff system with four teams is immediately better than the way we currently determine the national college football champion. I'm excited that college football is moving towards a playoff system Goodbye and good riddance BCS.
