ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) After serving for more than a year as the interim manager for Robeson County, Ricky Harris is stepping up to the plate to officially manage the county.
Voting unanimously in favor of that decision Monday night, Robeson County commissioners chose the man who had been filling since former manager Ken Windley retired in November 2010 as the county's manager.
Ricky Harris, 54, is originally from Maxton and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
After the meeting, Harris told The Robesonian, "I'm very thankful to the board. The board and county employees are a fantastic group of people to work with."
Harris become an assistant county manager in September 2006, and previously served as director of the county Elections Board.
As manager, Harris said he intends to increase power-generation operations at the county landfill in St. Pauls and to move forward the county's wellness program.
