ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) One
Lumberton man has been charged for allegedly stabbing a man following a dispute
over money stolen from a woman's purse.
Captain Andy Thomas, spokesman
for the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, tells WMBF News that 23-year-old Heath
Brooks was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury
for an incident that occurred around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Thomas says Brooks was drinking
with a group in a home on Singletary Church Road when an argument
broke out over some money that was reportedly stolen from a woman's purse.
Brooks allegedly grabbed a knife
and assaulted the victim by stabbing them in the head, neck, chest and stomach.
The victim was transported to a
local hospital where they were taken into surgery, but their condition is
unknown at this time.
Brooks has been released on a
$5,000 bond.
