FLORENCE COUNTY,
SC (WMBF) A suspect that has fled from officers in the past was apprehended by
the Florence County Sheriff's Officer SWAT unit Tuesday morning.
Captain
Michael Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, says
37-year-old Shanta Devon Simon of Timmonsville was taken into custody Tuesday
morning and charged with assault and battery and pointing and presenting a
firearm.
Investigators
on the case say that on May 15, Simon was verbally arguing with an individual which
escalated when Simon pointed a gun at the male victim and threatened to shoot
him.
Nunn added
that Simon has a prior criminal history. The Special Weapons and Tactics Unit
assisted with his arrest because of the violent nature of the offenses
charged.
Nunn said
additional charges are possible. Simon was also wanted on arrest warrants
issued by Darlington County for assault and battery.
Right now, Simon
is being held at the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing
before a Florence County Magistrate.
