Bringing the Madness to the Grand Strand

The Big South Conference Tournament for both men's and women's teams officially has a new home, and new name.

The VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championships will be played at the new Student Rec and Convocation Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University for the next three years, but that wasn't all that was announced.

The conference will invite all teams from the Big South to participate in the events. All of these decisions have been made after CCU was told it earned the winning bid to host for three seasons, beating out Winthrop University, UNC Asheville and the city of Winston-Salem, N.C.

"We are very grateful for the support of the greater Myrtle Beach area, and Coastal Carolina, and the interest that has been expressed," said Big South Conference Commissioner Kyle Kallander. "We're excited about the next three years."

Coastal Carolina Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek added, "Think of the teams. Think of the bands. Think of the cheerleaders, the alumni. The parents, family, friends, donors. There will be a tremendous influx of people in this community for the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championships."

Since both men's and women's teams will be playing in the same week, there will be 23 teams in the Grand Strand, all to play 21 games in a span of six days. The tournaments will run from March 5th-10th in 2013.
