Smoking ban could move up coast to Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Wrightsville Beach could soon become the first beach in North Carolina to ban smoking on the sand.

More than 290 people signed a petition encouraging leaders to keep cigarettes off the beach. Residents only needed 211 signatures to move forward in the process.

The Board of Alderman will hold a special meeting Thursday night at 5:00 to decide what steps should be taken next. The board can either put the ban in place or on a ballot for voters to decide.
