MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Bike Week 2012 is history and now we're beginning to see the results of this year's events. Myrtle Beach Police issued more citations, but they also had more assistance to help enforce the laws. And in other areas there were fewer citations than last year.
Consider This: The bike weeks became unmanageable a few years ago, however, 2012 was different. As the May events continue to evolve the balance between entertaining our guests and preserving some peace for the locals is improving.
In March and April there was much discussion about changing the rules for this year's events. However, many people just wanted the current rules enforced. And I believe that's a big reason that this year was better; law enforcement did a better job of enforcing those laws.
We can have the best of both worlds in May; a nice boost for area businesses to jumpstart the summer season while protecting the needs of our residents. 2012 was a great example of how we can make that happen.
