Study: Cancer cases expected to double by 2030

(CNN) – A new study suggests cancer is on the rise, with the number of cases expected to nearly double by 2030.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France produced the study published in the Lancet Oncology.

The group of researchers found that cervical and stomach cancers are down in more developed countries, but those cases are being replaced by instances of breast, prostate and colorectal cancers.

Researchers say the projections are estimates, but encourage countries to develop effective cancer prevention strategies, early detection and treatment programs.
