MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) One tourist staying in a Myrtle Beach hotel has to shell out cash for damages caused after they reportedly set off fireworks in their room.
The incident report obtained from Myrtle Beach Police says officers received a call about vandalism at the Monterey Bay Hotel on the 6800 block of North Ocean Boulevard Friday around 10:30 p.m.
A guest in the hotel told police he decided to light the fuse of a firework on the balcony of his room, but once it ignited it shot through the balcony door and shattered the glass. That guest says he immediately reported the incident to the front desk employees, but said he was unaware that fireworks were not allowed on the property.
The hotel did not press charges against the guest, but charged them the cost to replace the door, approximately $250.
The report did not detail what types of fireworks were ignited on the hotel balcony.
