MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) A fatal crash that temporarily closed the northbound lanes of SC 22 Tuesday morning has taken the life of a South Carolina woman.

According to Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick with the Horry County Coroner's Office, the victim of the crash was a 37-year-old female from Marion, SC.

Hendrick says the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and the primary cause of death was determined to be due to head injuries. The victim was the single occupant of a Chevrolet Blazer.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, says the vehicle was traveling east on SC 22 when it ran off the road, lost control and overturned several times.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, Collins said.

The victim's name has not yet been released. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol's website, the crash occurred around 7:45 a.m.

Online records show that the roadway was closed at SC 22 and US 501 for a few hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and police investigated the crash. Drivers were asked to avoid SC 22 northbound if possible.
