PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is investigating after the body of a Pawleys Island teen was found overnight at the intersection of Parkersville Road and Julian Rutledge Boulevard.

The Georgetown County Sheriffs Office has identified the victim as 18-year-old James Earl Richardson Junior of Pawleys Island.

Neighbors tells WMBF News reporter Alex Holley that Richardson went to Waccamaw High School and was last known to be walking to his grandmother's house when his body was discovered.

Neighbors also say this is very unusual because it's almost one year after his father died of a suspicious death. WMBF News is working to get more information about that incident.

An autopsy scheduled by the Georgetown County Coroner at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston Friday to determine the cause of death as a gunshot wound.

The Coroner's Office tells WMBF News the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office will be investigating this death as a homicide.

Anyone with any information regarding the death of Richardson should contact the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at 843-546-5101
