2 charged for motel room meth lab

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) Police in Horry County have charged two individuals taken into custody Wednesday night at the Astro Motel in Surfside Beach after police discovered the implements used in making methamphetamines.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, tells WMBF News that two individuals were taken into custody Wednesday around 11:20 p.m. at the hotel on 1700 block of Highway 17 North after police found items used to produce methamphetamines.

Police responded to the hotel after reports of a strong, suspicious odor.

The Horry County Police Department's Narcotics and Vice Section worked into the early morning hours Thursday with a private company to properly clean the room and collect the evidence.

Adam Douglas Merryman, 29, of Elizabethton, TN is charged with possession of methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance (Schedule I-V), and simple possession of marijuana.

Michael Ira Thomas, 41, of Surfside Beach is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance (Schedule I-V), simple possession of marijuana.

Both Merryman and Thomas are in custody at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
