MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) This weekend begins what law enforcement calls the 100 Deadly Days of Summer. More than 300 people have been killed this year on South Carolina roads, with a handful of deadly crashes locally in the past few weeks.
Consider This: When you have hundreds of thousands of guests traveling unfamiliar highways it's a recipe for disaster. These fatal crashes are a wake-up call of just how lethal our area and state roadways become in the summer.
And this weekend we add thousands of bikers to the mix so the potential for a deadly accident increases yet again.
If we all use some common sense we can help decrease the number of traffic fatalities. Don't drink and drive, don't text and drive, wear your seatbelt and drive defensively. If we all drive smarter hopefully we can make this the least deadly 100 Days of Summer.
