LORIS, SC (WMBF) A local branch of the NAACP is hosting an event in Loris Saturday to honor Trayvon Martin and bring attention to violence issues in Horry County.
The NAACP's branch in Myrtle Beach is hosting a community awareness event on Saturday, May 10 in Kingston Lake Community Center in Loris from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Trayvon Martin Candlelit Vigil and Tribute to Fallen Victims of Violence in Horry County is meant to recognize that acts of violence occur in communities across the nation, and everyone must do their part to prevent them.
Guest speakers will include parents, students, school board officials, law enforcement, pastors, elected officials and civic organizations sharing their perspective on violence and offering a solution to protect the families in this community.
Admission to the event is free, and refreshments will be served.
Kingston Lake Community Center is at 3410 Church Street in Loris.
