NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Grand Strand hotels, apartment complexes and countless public pools are getting a reprieve on an ADA deadline for fixed lifts.
"The Department of Justice has extended the deadline until January of next year," said Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association Director Stephen Greene. Greene says there were too many unanswered questions about the federal mandate.
"There were questions of putting in the wrong types of pool lifts," Greene said. "Or they weren't sure what kind of equipment they needed to use."
The extension is welcomed by hotels all over the Grand Strand whose management says the hotels wouldn't be ready by the original deadline, which was set for Monday.
"We don't know the process at this point," said Julie Phillips ofPeppertree By The Sea. "We've looked into all the lifts. We're working with a company and we know what it's going to cost us."
