MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Lakewood Elementary students have been evacuated from the building following a bomb threat Thursday afternoon.
According to Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County Police Department, officers and the bomb squad are responding to the threat and will clear the school of any potential dangers before students can return to class.
Horry County Schools spokesperson Teal Britton says the bomb threat was discovered written on a bathroom wall at 1:05 p.m.
The school plans to dismiss from where the students are evacuated, which is out on the boundary of the school's property, says Britton.
Students will not have an opportunity to go back inside the building, but teachers are gathering information about who may need anything left in the facility such as house keys and other personal items.
Britton adds they do not anticipate a delay in dismissal, which is around 2:30 p.m.
