SCHP investigating fatal Hwy. 9 collision

DILLON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a second fatal accident in Dillon County Wednesday, and the third in the Pee Dee.

The SCHP website says the crash occurred around 1:42 p.m. Wednesday on SC 9 West in Dillon County.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins with the SC Highway Patrol says the victim was driving a 2006 Chevy Impala south on Highway 9 Wednesday afternoon when it collided with another car in an intersection.

A 2001 Chevy Suburban was driving north on Highway 9 and attempting to make a left turn onto Cashua Ferry Road but failed to yield to the victim when their two cars collided, Collins said.

Collins added that the victim was wearing a seatbelt.

Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley has not yet released the identity of the victim, an adult male, pending notification of his family.

Collins said not charges have been filed, but the incident remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.
