HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) One man is dead following a motorcycle accident near the Garden City Connector Friday afternoon.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the two occupants of a motorcycle traveling northbound on Highway 17, just north of the Garden City Connector, Friday afternoon were thrown from the bike around 2:36 p.m. after striking the rear of an SUV that was slowing for traffic.

Collins said the driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet, but both driver and passenger were transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge tells WMBF News that the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 60-year-old Melvin Richard Perry, Jr. of Georgetown, died of internal injuries in the hospital Saturday morning.

This accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. At this time, no charges are being filed against the driver of the SUV, who did not sustain any injuries, Collins said.
