Arrest made after police chase along Highway 9

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) One person was arrested Wednesday evening after a police pursuit along Highway 9 in Horry County.

Lt. Strickland with the Horry County Police Department confirmed to WMBF News that officers tried to pull over a vehicle in Little River for an expired tag and the person fled down Highway 9.  The South Carolina Highway Patrol aided the HCPD with the chase and placed stop sticks along Highways 9 and 348.  The stop sticks flattened the two front tires of the vehicle and the vehicle crashed on Hewitt Road, which is just off of Highway 348 and Old Todd Ferry Road.

There were no injuries in the crash.  The suspect, William Travis Shelton, was arrested and will be charged with driving with an expired tag and failure to stop.  More charges are pending.  There was a passenger in the vehicle, but that person was not charged and taken home.
