DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The mother of an infant in Darlington County, and her boyfriend, were arrested this week after the child was taken to an area hospital with burn markings.

Captain Andy Locklair, spokesperson for the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, tells WMBF News that 20-year-old Jacques Crosley-Delante Wright was arrested Friday, and Kiera Smith, 20, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the suspected child abuse.

Locklair said the child was taken to a local hospital by another family member, and presented burn marks on the inside and bottom of both legs, several bruises and a black eye. Hospital staff says the family member believed the injuries were inflicted last Saturday.

Smith was arrested at the hospital Wednesday, and it's still unknown what charges she may face. Wright was arrested Friday and charged with unlawful neglect of a child. Booking records for the Darlington County Detention Center show Wright and Smith were no longer in custody Saturday.

The Darlington County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate how the child's injuries occurred.
