FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) A deputy with the Florence County Sheriff's Office found himself the subject of investigation after he was involved in an accident in his work vehicle.

Captain Michael Nunn, spokesperson for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said they arrested Corporal Adam Moore and charged him with misconduct in office, possession of controlled substances and theft of controlled substances.

Moore was employed as a Forensic Technician with the sheriff's office, a position Nunn said is "one of the highest positions of trust."

Moore was involved in a collision with a sheriff's office vehicle Tuesday night, and responders discovered stolen narcotics in the car.

Following an investigation and search warrants executed on Moore's residence, investigators discovered Moore had been taking drugs scheduled for destruction on closed cases from the department's evidence room, Nunn said.

Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said, "It is rare when we have employees who break the law, although it occurs in every agency over time. When police officers break the law however, we do not hesitate to investigate them, charge them and put them in our jail if warranted. This case is no exception."

Moore position with the Florence County Sheriff's Office was terminated Thursday, but the investigation continues and more charges are possible.
