Lumberton man shot while working on dirt bike

Posted: Updated:

LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) A Lumberton man has died after being shot outside his home Wednesday night.

Nathaniel Latreal Baxley, 22, was working on a dirt bike just before 11:30 p.m. outside his home off of Camala Drive when he was shot, according to Major Branch with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

Baxley's girlfriend, who was inside the home, reported to police that she heard "more than one" gunshots and called 911. It was unclear how many times Baxley was struck.

No arrests have been made, but Branch says this case is being investigated as a homicide.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Baxley lying on the kitchen floor. He was transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center but later died from his injuries.

No suspects have been identified in this case, and, according to the police report, Baxley's girlfriend was alone in the home when the shooting occurred.

Investigators are currently waiting for the results of Baxley's autopsy.
