DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) A new link on the Darlington County Sheriff's Office Facebook page is designed to monitor sex offenders. The link, titled Community Notification, is a new tool developed by a software program called OffenderWatch.
OffenderWatch has been utilized by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and sheriff's offices across the state. It enables law enforcement personnel to register, map, and monitor sex offenders, and electronically update the state registry.
Tools offered by OffenderWatch assists police in their efforts to better monitor sex offenders living in a given community, and to alert the public when an offender moves in.
The new Community Notification tool enables users to click and sign up to receive alerts without ever leaving Facebook. Once you sign up, you will receive automated alerts based on the address you specify so that you are notified whenever a new sex offender moves into a residence within a set proximity of your address.
"The well-being of Darlington County's children is of paramount importance," Sheriff Byrd said. "The Community Notification tool is a great way for everyone to work together to keep our children safe."
