Victim identified in fatal Florence Co. accident

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The South Carolina Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal accident that occurred in the Pamplico area Sunday.

According to the agency's website, the accident occurred around 11:10 a.m. Sunday on Half Moon Road and Fulton Road End in the Pamplico area of Florence County.

Lance Corporal Judd Jones says that the driver of a 1989 Toyota pick-up was driving north on Half Moon Road when he veered to the left, back to right and ran off the right side of the road when the vehicle overturned.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He was pronounced dead on the scene from multiple traumas, said Florence County Deputy Coroner Don Reynolds. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Johnathan Moreno of Johnsonville.

A male passenger traveling in the pick-up at the time of the accident was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Jones said.

Deputy Coroner Reynolds said witnesses recalled seeing a turkey in the road that may have caused the accident.

This accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
