FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) A Florence man is facing attempted murder charges for his jealously-fueled actions at a cookout Saturday afternoon.

Major Carlos Raines, spokesperson for the Florence Police Department, tells WMBF News that 41-year-old William Sanders of Florence was taken into custody Saturday following an incident at a cookout on Diggs Avenue in the City of Florence.

Raines said Sanders was attending the cookout with his girlfriend, and was offended when another gentleman spoke to his girlfriend. Sanders then reportedly grabbed a knife and struck the male victim in the neck, intending to cause injury.

The victim was treated on the scene for non-life threatening injuries after EMS was called, Raines said, and Sanders was arrested in the scene.

Sanders remains incarcerated at the Florence County Detention Center in Effingham where he is charged with attempted murder.
