ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) A North Carolina teen is behind bars after police say he broke into a Robeson County home and robbed a woman at gunpoint early Thursday morning.

Capt. Anthony Thompson with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office says 17-year-old Tamos Deon Jones of Shannon, NC, broke into a residence off Ronco Drive around 2:20 a.m.

The home was occupied by a 47-year-old woman and her teen daughter, and, according to Thompson, the homeowner was startled from her sleep by a noise in the kitchen. Thinking the noise was only her daughter, the homeowner started to get out of bed and heard footsteps coming toward her bedroom.

When the victim turned around, she saw a man standing in her bedroom with a shotgun. The man pointed the gun at the homeowner and demanded money. The woman directed the armed man to her dresser where she kept money and jewelry.

The robber then made the homeowner leave her bedroom and go into her daughter's room, where, according to Thompson, she heard a voice then saw a flashlight.

Sheriff's Deputies had entered the home searching for the suspect as an attempted robbery had been reported by a neighbor of the victim in an adjoining residence.

When deputies entered the victim's home, the suspect fled out the back door. Officers chased the suspect, apprehended him, and were able to recover the stolen items: a cell phone, purse and $30 in cash.

RCSO has charged Jones with first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, and an attempted first degree burglary.

Jones is currently being held at the Robeson County Detention Center with bond set at $126,000.
