'Pawn Stars' producers hit Grand Strand for new reality show

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) The producers of the hit reality shows 'American Restoration' and 'Pawn Stars' are making their way to Little River and are gearing up to tape a new reality show about the business of casino cruising.

Robert Weisberg, part owner of Sun Cruz Casino, says producers came to him in pursuit of a different kind of reality show, and now Sun Cruz is one of three cruise casino businesses taking center stage. The other two are Jacksonville, FL and Key West, FL.

Right now, the pilot for the show is in production. Weisberg says if the show is picked up, filming for a 13 episode series would start this summer. The new reality show could air as early as this fall.

Producers tell Weisberg they will likely follow five characters aboard their ship; a marine crew member, slot manager, casino host and the owners themselves. This will give the public a glimpse to what he says is a complex day to day business operation.

To Weisberg, the spotlight on Sun Cruz is a great opportunity for his business and beyond.

"It's going to highlight the Grand Strand. We've been very cautious about letting them into our world. I went out and visited Pawn Stars, and made sure they would reflect well on Myrtle Beach, on the Grand Strand, and on our operation," said Weisberg.

For those interested in taking part in all the action, production crews are scheduled to film this Saturday and Sunday during their all of the cruise times, however, reservations are required.
