MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The prosecution has charged George Zimmerman with second degree murder in the Trayvon Martin case and now the case is in the hands of the criminal justice system.
Consider This: It is easy to become emotional about this case. Regardless of whether or not you think George Zimmerman is guilty or he was within his rights based on the Stand Your Ground law, the determination of innocence or guilt will now be decided by the court of law instead of the court of public opinion.
A young man lost his life, a tragedy regardless of the outcome of the legal proceedings. And his death has sparked much debate about race relations in America. That's a conversation that needs to continue after this case is over. We have made much progress over the past 40 years, but there is much more work to be done. Hopefully this is an opportunity for those tough conversations to begin again.
