DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) An 86-year-old man is recovering after he was reportedly beat with his own cane, and police say the victim's daughter is the person responsible.

According to Capt. Andy Locklair with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested Tonya Marie Jackson, 51, on April 7 after she purportedly beat her elderly father with a metal cane.

Police say the incident took place at the 2200 block of Rockcrest Drive around 12:15 a.m. Jackson and her father were in his bedroom, arguing about money, when the altercation became physical.

Locklair says Jackson assaulted her 86-year-old father, resulting in severe head injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his wounds.

Jackson is currently being held at the Darlington County Detention Center and is charged with attempted murder.

Jackson was charged with attempted murder because of the severity of the victim's injuries and the difference in age between the two, according to Locklair.
