FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) A Florence man is behind bars after police say a fight between him and his wife led to violence against his children.
Major Carlos Raines, spokesperson for the Florence Police Department, tells WMBF News that 37-year-old Tyrone Sanders of Florence was arrested Thursday night and charged with two counts of unlawful neglect towards a child and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
Raines said Sanders is accused in connection with a domestic incident that occurred at his home on Southbrook Circle in Florence on Thursday night around 10:20 p.m.
The victim, Sander's wife, said he assaulted her, and when an 11-year-old child tried to intervene, Sanders struck him with a baseball bat.
Another child, aged seven, tried to stop the alleged assault and was hit too. Neighbors say, after the kids ran to their home, that the youngest child had a laceration on his head.
Warrants were sought against Sanders who fled the scene before police arrived.
Following a separate incident on Thursday, police in Florence alerted Lake City authorities that Sanders may be heading in that direction.
Lake City Police Department spotted Sanders vehicle and arrested. Once taken into custody at Florence County Detention Center in Effingham, Sanders was served with warrants related to the assault.
