MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The Mega Millions jackpot prize for Friday night's drawing has grown $164 million since only three days ago. Tonight's winner will bank $640 million.
After no one picked the winning Mega Millions lottery numbers Tuesday, the estimated jackpot for Friday night's drawing hit a record high, and then kept growing.
The jackpot was first estimated to be $476 million for Friday night's drawing, but by noon Wednesday that amount had grown to $500 million. CNN reported Thursday afternoon the amount had reach $540 million, and by Friday morning the winnings totaled $640 million.
Tuesday's drawing of the numbers 9, 19, 34, 44, 51 and Mega Ball 24 offered the third largest jackpot in the game's history, but still produced no winner.
According to the Mega Millions website, 47 ticket holders matched the five regular lottery numbers walking away with a cool $250,000. Two of those winners purchased their ticket in North Carolina and South Carolina produced one six digit winner.
Friday's drawing will offer a cash option of $462 million to the winning ticket holder. Would you take the cash, or set up the payment plan over several years?
