GARDEN CITY, SC (WMBF) The victim in a collision near the Garden City Connector Thursday night has been identified.

South Carolina Highway Patrol arrived on scene of a fatal accident in Horry County just after 9:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Officials say the crash happened on the Highway 17 Bypass and the Garden City Connector.

Sonny Collins, spokesperson for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said two vehicles were traveling on Highway 17 just south of Myrtle Beach when a pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway.

Collins said the pedestrian was hit by both cars, but charges are not being filed against the drivers. He said the pedestrian was walking illegally in the roadway.

WMBF News Reporter Ashley Taylor was on the scene and reported that traffic was at a stand still because the south bound lanes of the Highway 17 Bypass were shut down as crews continued to investigate. All lanes are now open.

Tamara Willard, Horry County's Chief Deputy Coroner, said the victim was 19-year-old Joshua Vaughn of Myrtle Beach. Vaughn was pronounced dead on the scene.
