MBPD: Shot fired in hotel sends one to hospital

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Myrtle Beach Police are investigating a possible accidental shooting in a Myrtle Beach hotel Saturday night.

According to an incident report obtained by WMBF News, police arrived at the Westgate Hotel on South ocean Boulevard in response to a report of shots fired to find one victim in a chair suffering from a gun shot wound.

That victim was conscious but having trouble communicating.

The witness holding the towel on the victim's wound told police that the victim had opened the door for an unknown black male and that man shot him in the stomach.

Additional witnesses were sleeping in the next room and were awoken by the sound of the gun shot. None of those witnesses recalled seeing a black male in the room, or leaving the room.

A Westgate employee told police in the report that they were the first on scene after the shot was fired and witnesses report to them that it was an accidental discharge.

After further questioning, the witness applying pressure to the wound admitted to accidentally discharging the weapon, causing the victim's injuries, and that he had disposed of the gun behind the hotel.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
