CONWAY, SC (WMBF) A 19-year-old man is facing several burglary charges Thursday after Conway officers say he committed seven burglaries in the Kiskadee Parke community between December and March.
Catina Hipp, spokeswoman for the Conway Police Department, said officers have charged Melquan Nelson, of Conway with five counts of burglary in the first degree and two counts of burglary in the second degree in connection to seven burglaries.
According to Hipp, officers responded to a home on Kiskadee Loop Sunday in reference to someone breaking into a residence. There, they reportedly located Nelson in the parking lot and arrested him on site without incident.
Hipp said items stolen from other burglaries in the same area were later discovered inside Nelson's home.
WMBF News learned Friday Nelson lives in the same community as his alleged victims.
Police reports say Nelson stole electronics including a laptop, cash and jewelry valued at almost $3000.
Cory Bauer says Nelson stole his Coastal Carolina football ring, which he did get back.
"I was just hoping that [Nelson] was the one that stole my ring and that's the only thing I really wanted back honestly. The money it's just money. You can get that back, but the ring's sentimental to me," said Bauer.
Bauer's next door neighbor Kyle Barry called police when he says Nelson broke into his home.
"He opened up our bedroom door and we saw him for a split second and I screamed out hello and the individual ran downstairs and came out through the back door," said Barry.
Nelson remains incarcerated at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
