Motorcyclist killed in Horry Co. collision

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate after a motorcyclist sideswiped another vehicle and died Wednesday evening.

According to the agency's website, the accident occurred on Highway 22 at mile marker 26 at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday.

Brent Kelly with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a motorcyclist traveling west on Highway 22 sideswiped a Toyota Camry and continued traveling west. He then lost control of the motorcycle and was thrown from it, hitting the roadway.

He was then pronounced dead at the scene. Kelly said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge tells WMBF News the deceased is 54-year-old Maurice Albert Winpigler of Loris. An autopsy will be performed at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center on Thursday.

The SCHP continues to investigate the collision at this time.
