COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-0 tornado touched down Saturday morning in Richland County.
The tornado touched down west of Monticello Road near Houston Street and Bishopville Avenue, knocking down trees and branches.
People throughout the Midlands were awakened Saturday morning by rain, lightning and thunder when a line of severe thunderstorms rolled through. The storms passed through Richland County just before 6 a.m. A tornado warning was posted for northern Richland county and southern Kershaw county, and several severe thunderstorm warnings.
WIS News 10 Meteorologist Von Gaskin said later in the day Saturday there is another threat for severe weather in the southern Midlands and the Lowcountry.
The rest of the Midlands can expect light to moderate rain showers through the early afternoon.
