FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) Florence County deputies have charged a Florence man with several weapons charges after deputies say he pointed a gun at law enforcement officials Wednesday.
Capt. Mike Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said deputies responded to McFadden Street in the Lake City area in reference to a man with a gun. Once on scene, Nunn said deputies witnessed Delbert Garland, Jr., 25, fire a handgun into the air.
Garland then pointed the gun directly at a FCSO deputy before placing the gun on the ground and lying down, Nunn said. Garland was then taken into custody as a 9mm handgun was recovered with an obliterated serial number.
According to Nunn, Garland had been convicted in the past of a violent crime and was not allowed to have a firearm or ammunition. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
Deputies have charged Garland with discharging a firearm in a public conveyance, unlawful carrying of a pistol, pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of a violent felony.
He remains incarcerated at the Florence County Detention Center on a $125,000 bond at this time.
