BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Gabe Watson was acquitted on Thursday in the capital murder trial for the death of his wife Tina. The acquittal came as the judge declared there was not enough evidence against Watson.
Gabe Watson was charged with capital murder in Tina's death during a scuba dive in Australia. Gabe and Tina wed in Alabama on October 11, 2003. As part of their honeymoon trip they took a dive trip off the historic SS Yongala Shipwreck site. That site is where Tina died.
Prosecutors with the state attorney general's office claim Gabe killed Tina to get his hands on more than $200,000 of life insurance and travel insurance.
Watson served time for manslaughter in Australia for the death. After serving his sentence, he returned to the U.S. to face a second set of charges.
