FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) A Lake City man was arrested after police say he agreed to take a stolen lawn mower in November.

Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff's Office arrested Benjamin R. Matthews, 32, of Lake City, Friday and  say he took a stolen John Deere lawnmower into his possession.

Matthews is charged with one count of Criminal Conspiracy. According to Investigators, on or about Nov. 23 of last year, Matthews agreed with co-defendants to possess and dispose of a stolen John Deere zero turn lawn mower, valued at approximately $4,500. 

Matthews could face a fine of up to $5,000 and up to five years in prison for the criminal conspiracy charge.

Matthews was released on a personal recognizance bond.
